The Institute on World War II and the Human Experience, Department of History, Florida State University invites the general public to attend a free screening of a preview of “The Great War” a three-part documentary featured in the PBS American Experience series, and a Q&A session following with the film’s writer, director, and producer Stephen Ives and historian Michael Neiberg on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, Jacksonville, Florida.
“The Great War” broadcasts on WJCT Public Television from Monday, April 10 through Wednesday, April 12 at 9pm.
Stephen Ives is a groundbreaking documentarian with over 20 years of experience in television, and is well known for his work on the American Experience, PBS, HBO and THE WEST, one of the most watched PBS programs of all time. Michael Neiberg is a leading historian of the First World War; he is currently a professor of history at the U.S. Army War College and has written prominent books such as Dance of the Furies: Europe and the Outbreak of World War I (Harvard University Press, 2013), which the Wall Street Journal recently named one of the five best books ever written about the First World War.
The public screening of “The Great War” is part of series of programs open to the general public as part of the 84th Annual Meeting of the Society for Military History (March 30-April 2, 2017).
