ABOUT THIS EVENT

WJCT, the Northeast Florida Regional Council (NEFRC) and the Jacksonville Environmental Protection Board (JEPB) invite you to join us for a virtual community conversation featuring two panels of local elected officials and subject matter experts. Issues addressed will be related to coastal & riverine flooding, sea level rise, environmental justice, and related policies.

Part 1: Science, Law & Policy

• Council Member Randy DeFoor, JD
  District 14, City of Jacksonville

  Randy DeFoor is Senior Vice President and National Agency Counsel for Fidelity National Financial, a fortune 500 company. As a member of the Jacksonville City Council, DeFoor serves as the Chair of the Special Committee on Resiliency, the Vice Chair of the Finance Committee and as a member of the Rules Committee and the Social Justice and Community Investment Special Committee. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of the South, Sewanee and JD degree from Cumberland School of Law. Randy served as a commissioner of the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission from 2006-2012. She recently served as the chair of the Jacksonville International Airport Community Redevelopment Area.

• Eric Summa
  Chief of Planning & Environmental Policy, Jacksonville District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

  As the Jacksonville District Planning and Environmental policy leader, Eric Summa is charged with facilitating federal investment in large scale water based infrastructure projects such as port enhancement, flood risk and coastal storm risk management, Everglades restoration and water management within the State of Florida. Mr. Summa has served the public for more than 25-years working with the Corps of Engineers, in Norfolk, Virginia, Tampa and here in Jacksonville since 2002. He has a master’s degree in Environmental Science and Policy from the University of South Florida and a bachelors in Marine Biology from Old Dominion University. He is also a certified Professional Wetland Scientist.

Part 2: Environmental Justice & Community Engagement

• Council Member Joyce Morgan
  District 1, City of Jacksonville

  Jacksonville City Council Member Joyce Morgan is serving her second 4-year term as representative of Jacksonville’s District 1. She serves as Chair of the Rules Committee and of the Value Adjustment Board. Morgan is also playing a key role as a member of the City Council’s Special Committee on Resiliency. She serves as the Chair of the Subcommittee on Education, Protection of Local Neighborhoods, and Community Outreach. The goal is to help ensure that Jacksonville residents understand and engage in the City Council’s efforts toward making Duval County capable of surviving and then thriving after catastrophic events. Her uncompromising leadership garnered her the Charles D. Webb Award, the City Council’s most prestigious internal award for commitment to public service in her first year as a City Council Member.

• Ashantae Green
  Subject Matter Expert, COJ Special Committee on Resiliency Subcommittees

  Ashantae Green grew up in Jacksonville on the East Side and witnessed the impacts of environmental inequities during her childhood. She owns A. Green Design Co., an architectural, digital design and consulting company specializing in construction, sustainability and conservation and is a member of the US Green Building Council of Northeast Florida Board of Directors. Ashantae co-founded Circle of Caring Jax, a sustainable non-profit dedicated to helping families, by providing educational resources and mostly organic food, rescued from local farms and grocery stores to divert food waste and improve food security in communities.

• Todd Sack, MD
  Subject Matter Expert, COJ Subcommittee on Environmental Planning

  Dr. Todd Sack speaks nationally and internationally on climate change, energy policy, and health. He is a leader in the Duval County Medical Society, Florida Medical Association, and the World Medical Association. He chaired, for ten years, the FMA’s Environment and Health Section; chaired the Jacksonville Environmental Protection Board; served on the Florida Energy Commission; and chaired the Florida Legislature’s Climate Change Advisory Group. Sack edits MyGreenDoctor.org, a free service for medical offices and outpatient facilities, used in 61 countries and 43 states, bringing topics of climate change and environmental sustainability to health professionals, patients and families. He is medical director for We Care at Borland-Groover Clinic, caring for the uninsured.
