Artist: Paco Gutierrez
Genre: Painting
Bio: Since I was born in Cuba, I have felt the need to return in my dreams and my paintings. Even though I am an abstract-expressionist, I always return to the iconic images of my lost motherland. I am looking forward to the day when I no longer have to paint from photographs and memory and can paint directly from what I see in front of me.
Piece: The Love of my Bohios
Piece Description: The “Bohio” is a left over of the Arawaks Indian dwellings that the Spanish found when they discovered the island. It is entirely made from the materials found in the Royal Palm tree. Until sometime in the past, it was still the preferred dwelling of the Cuban peasant.
