January 15 – Elvis: That’s The Way It Is
On July 31, 1969, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Elvis Presley staged a triumphant return to the concert stage from which he had been absent for almost a decade. His series of concerts broke all box office records and completely re-energized the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll career. This feature-length concert film crosses the footlights, revealing the legendary singer as a man preparing for an emotional career comeback, the fans who traveled from all over the world for this history-making event – and the electrifying live performance of the man who gave us rock ‘n’ roll.

January 22 – ENO
Visionary musician and artist Brian Eno—known for producing David Bowie, U2, Talking Heads, among many others; pioneering the genre of ambient music; and releasing more than 40 solo and collaboration albums—reveals his creative processes in Eno, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Gary Hustwit (HELVETICA, RAMS). In the first career-spanning documentary of the legendary and prolific artist and the world’s first generative feature film, Hustwit set out to decode Eno’s creative strategies and examine his lifelong search for the meaning of music. Defying the hagiographic impulses of the music doc genre, ENO draws from original interviews, the artist’s own staggering archive of never-before-seen footage and unreleased music, and Hustwit’s original interviews. Utilizing a proprietary software system developed by Hustwit and digital artist Brendan Dawes, Eno offers millions of possible variations and ushers in a groundbreaking approach to storytelling. The result is a viewing experience that resonates with Eno’s artistic practice, his use of technology to compose music, and the mercurial essence of creativity as his endless pursuit.

January 29 – Summer of Soul (…Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised)
Summer of Soul is part music film, part historical record created around an epic event celebrating Black history, culture, and fashion. Over six weeks in the summer of 1969, just 100 miles south of Woodstock, The Harlem Cultural Festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park). The footage was never seen and primarily forgotten–until now. SUMMER OF SOUL shines a light on the importance of history to our spiritual well-being and stands as a testament to the healing power of music during times of unrest, both past and present. The feature includes never-before-seen concert performances by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly and the Family Stone, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Mahalia Jackson, B.B. King, The 5th Dimension, and more.
