First Coast Community Invited to “Shakespeare for Dummies”

(Jacksonville, FL, May 20, 2013); WJCT invites the First Coast Community to “Shakespeare for Dummies,” a screening and discussion about Shakespeare, his works, how to understand it all, and how it is all relevant today. The event will take place in the WJCT Studios on Tuesday, May 28 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Reservations may be made at wjct.org/events.

The event includes:

  • A screening of “Shakespeare Uncovered,” a PBS series that explores the stories behind Shakespeare’s greatest plays;
  • Companion radio segments, produced by WJCT, featuring First Coast actors, directors and playwrights; and
  • A panel discussion.

“Shakespeare Uncovered” combines history, biography, iconic performances, new analysis and the personal passion of its celebrated hosts – Ethan Hawke, Jeremy Irons, Derek Jacobi, Treor Nunn, Joely Richardson and David Tennant – to tell the story behind the stories of Shakespeare’s greatest plays. The six part series is scheduled to air on WJCT-TV (Comcast 8, 440), as follows – May 24 at 11 p.m. (Macbeth); May 30 at 9 p.m. (The Comedies) and 10 p.m. (Richard II); and May 31 at 8 p.m. (Henry IV & V), 10 p.m. (Hamlet); and 11 p.m. (The Tempest).
