“The Battle” by Melinda McDonnell

That Lady Friend of Mine
by Melinda McDonnell

You may be at war
on a battlefield
but, the worst fight
Is the one going on in my chest.
It hurts my heart to know
you are afraid even doing
what you love and
what you love can cause
you such great pain
I’ll never forget your blue eyes,
shining under the stars,
hearing you talk about
your one and only love
going to war.
