ADAPT: Will A New Administration Change Florida’s Climate Future?

Join us for a virtual panel discussion on what a new year, a new Congress, and a new presidential administration could mean for climate policy in Northeast Florida and beyond.

Lead ADAPT reporter Brendan Rivers will moderate the conversation with experts who are working to slow climate change and protect those who are most vulnerable to its impacts.

    Climate Justice Organizer, Florida Rising

    When Leigh Ann Gustavus moved to Jacksonville from Atlanta 15 years ago, she quickly saw the disparity between the crisp curbs of her hometown’s suburbs and the flooded streets and food deserts in parts of her new home. This moved her to join organizing efforts toward a more equitable and resilient North Florida.
    Leigh Ann has been passionately engaged in criminal justice reform, disaster resilience and recovery, and voter rights and representation in an effort to build economic and political power in Jacksonville’s most marginalized and vulnerable communities.

  • Angie Nixon
    Representative, Florida House District 14

    Angie Nixon is a native of Jacksonville and a graduate of Stanton College Prep and the University of Florida. She has turned her passion and love for the community into a 10 year career as a community organizer. Angie was elected as the State Representative for Florida House District 14 in 2020 and is the current Director for the Florida Public Service Union’s Higher Education Campaign. She has previously served as the State Field Director for the Service Employees International Union and as the North Florida Regional Organizer for New Florida Majority. Angie is the founder of The Moxie Group, a community outreach and social impact firm that focuses on empowering underserved and underrepresented communities and the mom of a real life superhero, 13 year old author Natalie “Moxie” McGriff.

  • Adam Rosenblatt, PhD
    Assistant Professor of Biology, University of North Florida

    Dr. Adam Rosenblatt is an ecologist who has spent much of his career studying the effects of climate change on animals and plants. He has conducted research at Florida International University, Yale University, the U.S. Department of Energy. Dr. Rosenblatt has been an advocate for common sense climate change policies at both the local and national levels for many years, and he is the co-founder and leader of the Jacksonville chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby, a non-partisan climate legislation advocacy organization. He is also currently serving as an expert contributor on Jacksonville City Council’s Special Committee on Resiliency.
